Is a hurting arm common if you have anxiety disorder?
Are cults really the result of untreated anxiety Disorder?
Be it a Religious, Governmental, Corporate, educational, cultural, ideological, ect.
In anxiety disorder, people are constantly scared, despite the fact no real threat exists. Their conscious mind tells them that this is unreasonable. However, their unconscious mind fears that stuff that is not an actual threat. It can be triggered off any possible way.
Appropriate reaction to fear: If your house caught on fire, the only reasonable thing to do would be to evacuate the house.
Appropriate prevention: If someone saw a snarling dog, the logical thing to do is not pet and approach the dog.
However, when someone suffers anxiety disorder, their unconscious mind fears stuff that is not a threat. However, in a cult, someone will use a fear tactic to keep them in line. So, someone suffering under anxiety is forced to consciously believe that there really is a real threat to them, and tell them how to avoid the threat, handing over their reasoning skills. Since anxious feelings are really unreasonable.
Religious Example: Someone with anxiety Disorder would be forced to think that their anxiety is based on a real threat that they are on the road to hell, and the only way to avoid hell is to join a Fundamentalist cult, and avoid alcohol, dancing and harry potter. Reasonably, none of this stuff is wrong, and that certain church is not the sole source of salvation.
Governmental: Someone with anxiety disorder refuses to put a letter in his friends mailbox, because it is technically illegal, and breaking a law could put someone in jail. However, reasonably, you are not likely to get caught, and even if you did, no one would call the cops. Even if they did, the worse that would happen is they would get fined.
So, their unconscious mind is causing one to feel scared, and their conscious mind is told the fear is based on something real.
I believe cults are a result of untreated Anxiety Disorders as well as other Psychological conditions. I hope you are doing well. Best Wishes.
social anxiety disorder medications are not working now ?
i have been taking same medications(doxipin and sertraline 50mg) for social anxiety for last 4 months .at starting it was working quit well . i was able to be 100%normal at a huge gathering also but medications now dont show any signs for betterment . now again i feel wierd in the social gatherings .1. should i try other medications now ? 2. should i stop medication for a week and then continue it again .
or what please help me .
You are taking 2 anti-depressants, and you say they were helping for a few months.
Whatever doctor prescribed them, should be called and told.
You may need a higher dose–or maybe have one changed.
There is medication for anxiety too, which might help.
But your doctor would know best.
I would definitely not just stop the medication. Call the doctor and get his advice– as many medications you can NOT just stop–you have to be weaned down from them.
Good luck
Is an anxiety medication addiction bad if it helps keep you sane?
I have been taking Xanax for about 2 years for generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks. I’ve read a lot on the internet that being addicted is a "bad" thing, but is it bad if it keeps me from going postal or being lousy company to my partner or getting no sleep? My psychiatrist thinks long-term use is ok, but most family doctors warn against long-term Xanax use. Do any of you have any experience with this drug?
as long as you are not "abusing" the medication by taking too much, taking it to often, or misusing it by snorting it, chewing it, or shooting it up. i wouldn’t say you have an "addiction". if the drug is improving your circumstances and does not have negative affects to your activities of daily living (such as avoiding activities, friends, work, and family) it is beneficial, and working just how it is supposed to. i wouldn’t worry myself about what others think about it.
How do I pinpoint the cause of my anxiety attacks?
For the past year or two, I’ve suddenly experienced intense panic attacks. I’ve only had two spells that last a few days to a few weeks. I have depression and know that it is linked to anxiety, but I want to find the root of the problem so I can really began healing it. I just don’t know what could have caused it. Are there any starting points? Any red flags or triggers?
Panic attacks are caused by trauma or traumas that occurred sometime in your life that you were not able to deal with in a healthy way. There are many safe medications that control and stop the panic attacks. They are triggered by a smell, something that someone says, or seeing something that reminds the subconsious mind of the trauma.
There is a revolutionary therapy called EMDR that is done by a therapist who specializes in EMDR. The therapist has the skills and knowledge to bring forth from the subconsious mind trauma or traumas that have occured in your life that you don’t remember. Once the trauma is remembered the paitient is able to deal with it in an adult and emotionally healthy way preventing the panic attacks. This might be something that you may want to look into. You can good EMDR Therapy and find out anything that you want to know about it. I wish you the best and recovery from your panic attacks.
Are there any anti anxiety medications available with out a prescription?
Are there any, and if so, what works best?
It is preferable to go with a natural solution that doesn’t require the use of medication. Natural treatments offer a lifetime solution, as opposed to a temporary solution from medication. These are just two that I am familiar with.
The Panic Away Program - http://www.cureanxietydisorder.com/panicaway.html
The Linden Method - http://www.cureanxietydisorder.com/linden-method.html
Hope this helps…
Which one of these bipolar and anxiety medications would be causing me to have no appetite whatsoever?
I am on Seroquel, Risperidone and Buspirone and lately I have had no appetite whatsoever. Which of these medications would be most likely to cause that? Someone please help 10 points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your lack of appetite is due to nausea it could be from any of the three. However, none of those drugs specifically have ‘loss of appetite’ as a side effects. Seroquel can actually cause an increase in appetite.
If you’ve only recently started taking your medications your body may just need some time to adjust to them. If you’ve been taking them for a while and this is a new problem then you should call your doctor or pharmacist. It may not be the drugs at all, you could have an underlying health problem.
Possible to take anti-depressents and anti-anxiety medications?
I take Wellbutrin (150mg) now, and I feel it’s working, but is it also possible to take anti-anxiety mediactions (Xanax, Valium, etc.) with an anti-depressent?
I’ve read that anti-anxiety medications (benzos) may also have a side effect of depression.
Some patient do take both. Xanax/valium are used for "breakthrough anxiety. If they are needed frequently, the "controller" med (Welbutrin) may need to ge increased or changed.
What are some holistic ways to treat anxiety and depression?
I’ve been taking anti-depressants for almost two months, and while I think they’re helping a little, they’re way too expensive ($100/month!). I’ve tried St. John’s Wort and that didn’t seem to help. What are some other, inexpensive ways to fight depression and anxiety? (If meditation or yoga, anything specific?)
I see a naturopath for treatment for anxiety and depression. Everyone is individual and do NOT mix any supplements for depression with your medication without consulting a doctor. 5-HTP helps many people with both anxiety and depression. I am going through tests to make sure that it’s not a deficiency in my body that is causing anxiety in particular. Tests such as the heavy metals in the body, Vit D deficiency, gut check: these are to make sure that it’s not something very easy to correct. I take tilia extract for anxiety, Vit C, Vit B complex, fish oils and I have a regular yoga practice, it honestly doesn’t matter which practice you start just make sure that the teacher is a good, certified teacher. You’ll find the right style of yoga in time. It’s a process. Breath work is very helpful but again a good yoga instructor could help you with specific exercises. I find Kundalini to be very helpful when I need a ‘quick fix’. There are some wonderful tapes by Ana Brett and Ravi Singh that are NOT difficult and very accessible. I do vinyasa flow as my usual practice but honestly Kundalini is great. Meditation is simple: follow your breath. Sit upright in a comfortable position, close your eyes gently and just focus on breathing in and breathing out. Try it for 5 minutes and build up. When you breath in say: breathing in. When you breath out say: breathing out (to yourself). If your mind wanders then that’s OK just keep practicing bringing it back to the breath. That’s a very simple but powerful meditation.
I would see a good naturopath if you’re seeking alternatives to medication. Regular exercise can do miracles for depression and anxiety. It releases endorphins which are necessary for us to feel good. I would be crippled with anxiety if I did not have my yoga practice, cycling and kickboxing. Best to you
How to overcome social anxiety disorder?
I am suffering from social anxiety disorder for a few years now. Tried a lot of varies treatments but very little of them used to help. Please give some advice on how to overcome social anxiety disorder.
Thanks
Hmm.. I have a bit of this too. I think the best thing to do is to see a counsellor. My counsellor says the best thing for people like us is just to have someone to talk to and be ‘human’ with. If you can connect with someone, even if it’s just your counsellor, then you can learn to work your way up to connecting with more people.
Sorry I can’t give more help, but you didn’t say much about your background/experiences.
And btw I love your pic and name too
