I have this thing were I get really anxious when i take medication cuz i dont know what effect it will have on me.. but the thing is I want medication to help my anxiety, but when i take the pills i work myself up and get anxiety attacks.. and I dont know what to do. does anyone know alternative ways to deal with it?
do some research on the meds and see what the common side effects are. there may be nothing to fear or you may find some really useful information. either way, it sounds like you’re having anxiety attacks because of what you are imagining may or may not happen due to taking the meds.
educate yourself and you’ll have a more realistic idea of how to proceed.
in the mean time you can also research more natural ways to deal with anxiety attacks that don’t involve prescription drugs.

If I forget to take my Seroquel I feel worse and I feel like the world is going to end. Does anyone else feel this way about their medication?
Most medication like this are addicting. You will go through withdrawal if you miss too many. So the best bet is not to miss any. GOOD LUCK
I have been diagnosed with OCD and anxiety disorder by my doctor, and she referred me to a psychologist. I was just wondering what medications would be effective/safe to treat this, and what are the side effects? Are there any that decrease appetite as well, because that is part of my OCD–I obsessively eat when i’m nervous. thank you.

I’d like to know generally how anti anxiety medications work, how long one is supposed to take them, and how a person or a doctor knows when is the right time to stop the medication.
If the anxiety is due to a chemical imbalance, does that mean the meds must be taken forever?
Are they selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors? They build up to a maximum therapeutic level, and slowly become less and less effective as time goes on. It depends on the drug, but they are not a permanent solution. They help break the cycle of anxiety, but it is necessary to change the circumstances that provoked the anxiety to begin with. Otherwise it is likely to happen again. The doctor should have told you how long to continue with the course of treatment, or at least have advised you of the typical duration.
I have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and I’m restarting therapy soon. I’m a teenager, and I can feel happy for a little while, but it always goes back to the same anxious place. I’m kind of afraid to be happy because I’m afraid it will be all worth nothing, even though I KNOW that its not. I also want to rest my life in the hands of the Lord but can’t seem to do it. Is there anything I can do before therapy?
That’s good that you are taking therapy. Everyone deserves to be happy even with problems.
Try Meditating. It’s hard at first to be focused on only one thing- your breath-but it is very calming and healthy! Count your breath inhaling one thousand one, one thousand two… then exhaling one thousand one, one thousand two one thousand three, one thousand four, then repeat until your body starts to tingle. Your body will feel like this because it isn’t used to so much blood passing through the veins at one time, but don’t worry, this is a good thing. Many cultures see meditation as a key for their health.
Exercise.
exercise appeals to you better consider trying yoga, Tai Chi, or Tae Bo! These increase both your physical and mental well being, and they are a lot of fun. Breathing exercises are also worth considering as they can greatly help reduce anxiety symptoms.
Good luck!
I have had social anxiety disorder since I was 7. I’m 20 now and seems like its getting worse every single day. I don’t have the money for therapy or medication so is there anything I can do by myself to help me?
Try your local county mental health clinic, they opften can offer therapy for those that can’t afford it. Or see if you can find a support group in your area, that might help.
I’m on a daily dose of an anti depressant/anxiety medication and I think the therapist said no smoking or drinking while on it, but I’m really not sure, I can’t exactly remember. So would smoking while on this cause anything bad?
Alcohol can affect the medication and make you sleepy. Smoking will have no affect on anti depressants.
Be careful of the anti depressants, they are highly addicted. The doctors don’t tell you this. Most people have a hard time to quit the medication.
It is better to smoke a healthy cigarette than tobacco, here is the link: http://www.greensmoke.com/bestprice
