Can Panic attacks/ anxiety attacks cause discoloration of your fingernails?

Posted by admin on February 18th, 2010 and filed under anxiety attacks | 1 Comment »

I’m just curious because I’ve had a lot of panic and anxiety attacks and just noticed that my finger nails have an off-white line across them and a bit of a dark purple color just under that. So is this caused by panic/ anxiety attacks or is it something more serious than that?

Discoloration of the fingernails is usually caused by a variety microorganisms. However, it can also be the panic attacks, they pose many risks to the body’s immune system. Anyway, you should see a doctor and get examined. If you want to treat the panic attacks you can try this site for a natural method: http://tinyurl.com/ylkuwhx/panic

How do you date someone with an anxiety disorder?

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2010 and filed under anxiety disorder | 4 Comments »

The guy I’m currently dating told me he has anxiety disorder and takes xanax for it. I really like him and I need to know how to handle this kind of behavior. What should I expect and what can I do to help?

I have a friend who has anxiety and takes medicine for it also. Its really not that big of a deal. As for what to expect: Sometimes when my friend gets really anxious, he has a hard time breathing. He just gets a drink of water (or whatever is near), sits down and takes deep breathes. We usually help calm him down by patting his back or making jokes. I haven’t ever seen him have a serious panic attack, but i heard they are pretty bad. In which case its kind of out of your hands. The most you can do is try to relax him with a soothing voice and rubbing his back or something. But honestly, unless he is worse than my friend, it won’t effect your relationship too much. If hes easily triggered, then it might be a different story but if he has it well controlled like my friend, you will barely notice it.

How can I get over anxiety attacks so I can give a presentation next week?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010 and filed under anxiety attacks | 7 Comments »

I have severe anxiety and I’ve been having anxiety attacks for months. I can’t take prescription pills because I’m an air traffic controller and I’ve been trying herbs (valerian, ignatia, passion flower) but nothing seems to work. And I ALWAYS have anxiety attacks when I have to speak to a group and next week and have to give a short presentation to everyone in my work and I’m petrified of having an anxiety attack. Please help me.

just laugh at whatever the task is..
thats wud be the first step.. just have a laugh..
step back fromt he issue.. and see it as a minor thing u just have to do…
make a date with a friend.. or plan something right after.. so u have something to look forward to..
the main thing here is…
no matter what u do.. u will feel anxiety leading up to the event of speaking right?
well its just like walking in late to class..
u know ur late.. ur heart is racing.. u have to get there.. but everyone will be sitting down..
the best thing to do in both these situations.. is to just forget about it..
i mean.. having anxiety and going crazy over it.. or not going crazy isnt going to make things better.
the outcome of what u have to do.. will be there anyway… so instead of having anxiety..
just have neutrality.. brush it off..
dont think about it. forget it.. what will happen will happen. one way or the other..
its the pre-thought that fucks everybody up. so the best thing to do is act like u dont care.
and it will work out trust me.

You want to know what is worse than having anxiety attacks?

Posted by admin on February 14th, 2010 and filed under anxiety attacks | 1 Comment »

Not having any Anxiety attacks or anxiety about anything. Being so numb to everything around you. I don’t know if it’s God giving me the the gift of calmness during hard times, or if it is the numbness of depression. Either way, it scares me that i am not upset, sad or mad about current happenings.

There is a lot out there - one person cannot solve it all.
We can all just chip away.

Worry does not solve anything. Action does.

Be good. Do good. Find God.
You will not be depressed.

When I was 12 my daddy died and I had to hunt and fish for my family to eat (I was the oldest); instead of begrudging my fate - I actually started enjoying it. I love blasting guns!

You should be accepting of current events and trying to do the best you can. Even giving food through FeedingAmerica.org or similar group.

How do you treat social anxiety disorder is there hope?

Posted by admin on February 14th, 2010 and filed under anxiety disorder | 6 Comments »

I have had social anxiety disorder for years but the doctors always told me I was just shy which was untrue it was much more than that.I do not have a job not that many friends dont even drive yet due to this .I want to get help and I am just wondering if there is any way to treat this or at least make it tolerable and let me live finally. If you want to make fun of this go right ahead but unless you actually deal with this you have no idea how difficult or hard it is to live with.

You’ve gotten good advice so far, i would also remind yourself that its nothing to be embarrassed about, your probably gonna feel a lot better once you get through it, just remind yourself that you have nothing to be anxious about and that people are good, eventually it will sink in and that will be your automatic sub-conscious :)

Does anyone know the difference in anti anxiety medications?

Does anyone know the difference in anti anxiety medications and anti depressive medications?
I am on zoloft for depression.
And Xanax for anxiety.
I was wondering the differences in the two types of medications.
Thanks!

You just answered your own question. Zoloft treats depression…and Xanax treats anxiety. Xanax is a central nervous system "relaxer" of sorts…and Zoloft helps to regulate the seratonin levels in your brain.

Why does ECT not treat generalized anxiety if it’s caused by shortage of the same brain chemical as depression?

Posted by admin on February 6th, 2010 and filed under treating anxiety | 2 Comments »

. . . (serotonin in-between the cell receptors), and many depression treatments (Zoloft, for example) treat both depression and anxiety, just at different dose levels (2X - 3X higher for treating anxieties)?

In other words, why doesn’t this seemingly simple analogy hold?

A different type of receptors for anxiety vs. those for depression?

Saying a particular receptor causes depression or anxiety is quite a crude generalisation.

They only help in one way. Like if you are cold and you put on a hat, the hat HELPS, but it isn’t going to take the place of the coat, gloves a scarf now is it? Also, just because affecting certain receptors helps doesn’t mean that those receptors are even the cause of the disease itself.

In my opinion, ECT is a very crude and barbaric treatment that is only allowed because as a society we think less of mental patients.

What causes an anxiety disorder to develop, and how can I control it without the use of prescription drugs?

Posted by admin on February 6th, 2010 and filed under anxiety disorder | 7 Comments »

I’ve had an anxiety disorder for as long as I can remember. But it is gradually getting worse, to the point where the simplest things will cause me to have a panic attack. It’s taking over my life. Every therapist I’ve ever tried seeing has always just given me prescription after prescription. I want to know if any of you have this problem- if so, how do you deal with it? How do you calm yourself down? How do you cope with it?

Ive had an anxiety disorder for a while as well, and I deal with it without prescription drugs.

Basically, to deal with my panic attacks and general anxiety I will do one of 3 things.

1. If possible, I will take some time to sit alone and meditate, it really helps to clear your mind. I cannot suggest this technique more - it takes a while to get to the point where you can meditate easily, but it works better than any medication I’ve ever taken.

2. Write/Talk out my fears at that time. I will write down or say out loud what is causing my anxiety, and the more I read or say them, the stupider they seem.

3. Talk to someone about it. In the past I used to talk to my therapist about my issues, and it did really help, but now that I don’t have health insurance, I talk to my girlfriend about it, and it really helps me out.

I hope these techniques can help you, they really help me.

I really dislike prescriptions and medications in general, I believe they cause more problems than they fix.

How do I know if im having Anxiety attacks or there is something wrong with me?

Posted by admin on February 4th, 2010 and filed under anxiety attacks | 4 Comments »

I asked another question here on yahoo about how to calm down from anxiety attacks and they told me to first of all make sure that they are actually anxiety attacks. Like they said my body could be trying to survive from low blood sugar levels or something..

You are having an anxiety attack when you heart starts beating really fast and you get sweaty, have a hard time getting your breath, feel nauseous, and have chest pains.
