What is a Helpful Anxiety Medication?

Posted by admin on March 11th, 2010 and filed under anxiety medication | 5 Comments »

I have anxiety badly. I go to counseling and I am on Cymbalta, and Triliptal. I also take Vistaral for anxiety as needed. I dont think I need the medication for depression and mood stablization. I believe i just have anxiety. I get scared, and fearful a lot and I get too scared to go anywhere or hang out with friends sometimes. I know its anxiety and I need to know what different anxiety medications are out there that i can try as a daily medication?

There are many anxiety medications out there. Drugs like Xanax, Valium, and Klonipin, are in a group of medications called "benzodiazepines". These drugs carry with them serious notorious withdrawal side effects.

Anxiety medications don’t suppress anxiety but rather prevent you from feeling anxious. They are tranquilizers and they do not treat the cause of the anxiety.

Therapy is the only thing I’ve found to be helpful with anxiety in myself and the people I know with anxiety problems.

Does Celebrex increase depression in people taking antidepressants and anxiety medication?

Posted by admin on March 6th, 2010 and filed under anxiety medication | 2 Comments »

I recently started taking Celebrex for arthritis and I’m also on antidepressants, thyroid and anxiety medications. I have started being teary eyed and down in the dumps. Just wondered if anyone knows if this could be a side effect of Celebrex.

There are psychiatric side-effects that can occur with Celebrex (link below, click on the side-effects tab), and also drug interactions mainly due to its action on two important isoenzymes often used in the breakdown/metabolism of medications.

It might be one to check through with your doctor - for example if the antidepressant you are on is Prozac, then the CYP2D6 inhibition caused by the Celebrex would have implications on the Prozac metabolism, possibly leading to increased levels which in turn could be implicated in your reaction.

anxiety test to see what type of medication i need?

Posted by admin on February 4th, 2010 and filed under anxiety medication | 4 Comments »

is there an online test for anxiety that tells you what type of anxiety medication a person should take.there are so many medications for anxiety out there i dont know which one would work for me.I have been to the dr and the dr wont help me so I want to do a self diagnosis and try something.

Well, you can’t get medication without a prescription from a doctor, so diagnosing yourself won’t do you any good. Of course there are ways to get prescription medication without a prescription, but that is against the law and just isn’t safe. What you need to do is go to a different doctor.

What anti anxiety medication can you take while pregnant?

Posted by admin on January 29th, 2010 and filed under anxiety medication | 3 Comments »

I am currently on Paxil and I know that is harmful to the baby while pregnant. I would like to start trying for a family with my husband, but currently really do need the anxiety medication. Anyone else take anything while they were pregnant or know someone who did?
Just a little added info, the source of my anxiety came when I started having horrific back pain. I have scoliosis and living w/ the pain, put me on edge and I started having issues w/ anxiety.

Well,my anxiety was so severe when I was pregnant that I would come so close to actually passing out.And I also had an 18 month old to care for.I was being cared for by a ‘high risk’ OB/GYN,and he was GREAT!!! But anyways he gave me xanax, and I know some will say this was a bas thing, but I only took this medication only when needed, not on a regular basis.Because this kind of medication works fast.not over time,I had such a hard first delivery that I was in great fear of having the same repeat problem with my second baby.I was in labor for 3 days with basically no amniotic fluid(sorry if I mis-spelled it).I had to have surgery,it was just awful for me and my baby. But every single situation calls for different medical treatments…I wish you and your baby all the very best!!!!!

Posted by admin on January 4th, 2010 and filed under anxiety medication | 3 Comments »

i’ve never been evaluated by a doctor but after 18 yrs i’m 100% positive i have some sort of anxiety disorder, more specifically bipolar and social anxiety. i just want it to go away and i want to be happy again which i haven’t been in years. i’m sick of wasting this life being unhappy.
is there anyway i can achieve free anxiety medication through insurance? i don’t want to let my parents know i’m on it becuase they wouldn’t support that or let alone think i need it but i really think it could help me.

Your county health department should give free services like that, but I would recommend seeing your doctor, as .well

What is the best anxiety medication of the moment?

i’m going to see my doctor and i need to discuss anxiety medication with him..i need some ideas of what’s out there..he keeps trying to put me on anti-depressants cause he doesn’t know much about anxiety..i can’t change doctors yet..that is not an option atm..tyvm for your comments,..

I’ve done the whole therapist/psychologist stuff for 15 yrs..i feel i can now benefit from medication

Buspar helps some people. Avoid benzos: ativan, xanax, valium, klonopin. They are addictive and can cause memory problems and aggressive behavior. They are chemically related to lunesta and ambien, which also cause these problems.

I have bipolar disorder quite severely, so I have a social worker, and she has said that generally anxiety disorders respond much better to counseling than meds. So it sounds to me like you’re going down the wrong road. get some books on anxiety and do the homework. Lucinda Bassett has a program that many people like, it is expensive, but maybe it is available thru your library.

Does anyone feel that they are addicted to their anti depressants/anxiety medication?

If I forget to take my Seroquel I feel worse and I feel like the world is going to end. Does anyone else feel this way about their medication?

Most medication like this are addicting. You will go through withdrawal if you miss too many. So the best bet is not to miss any. GOOD LUCK

How long are you supposed to take anti anxiety medication and can it stop your abnormal anxiety for good?

Posted by admin on December 11th, 2009 and filed under anxiety medication | 1 Comment »

I’d like to know generally how anti anxiety medications work, how long one is supposed to take them, and how a person or a doctor knows when is the right time to stop the medication.
If the anxiety is due to a chemical imbalance, does that mean the meds must be taken forever?

Are they selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors? They build up to a maximum therapeutic level, and slowly become less and less effective as time goes on. It depends on the drug, but they are not a permanent solution. They help break the cycle of anxiety, but it is necessary to change the circumstances that provoked the anxiety to begin with. Otherwise it is likely to happen again. The doctor should have told you how long to continue with the course of treatment, or at least have advised you of the typical duration.

Is smoking cigarettes bad when taking anti depressants/anxiety medication?

Posted by admin on December 4th, 2009 and filed under anxiety medication | 1 Comment »

I’m on a daily dose of an anti depressant/anxiety medication and I think the therapist said no smoking or drinking while on it, but I’m really not sure, I can’t exactly remember. So would smoking while on this cause anything bad?

Alcohol can affect the medication and make you sleepy. Smoking will have no affect on anti depressants.
Be careful of the anti depressants, they are highly addicted. The doctors don’t tell you this. Most people have a hard time to quit the medication.
It is better to smoke a healthy cigarette than tobacco, here is the link: http://www.greensmoke.com/bestprice

Is an anxiety medication addiction bad if it helps keep you sane?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under anxiety medication | 8 Comments »

I have been taking Xanax for about 2 years for generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks. I’ve read a lot on the internet that being addicted is a "bad" thing, but is it bad if it keeps me from going postal or being lousy company to my partner or getting no sleep? My psychiatrist thinks long-term use is ok, but most family doctors warn against long-term Xanax use. Do any of you have any experience with this drug?

as long as you are not "abusing" the medication by taking too much, taking it to often, or misusing it by snorting it, chewing it, or shooting it up. i wouldn’t say you have an "addiction". if the drug is improving your circumstances and does not have negative affects to your activities of daily living (such as avoiding activities, friends, work, and family) it is beneficial, and working just how it is supposed to. i wouldn’t worry myself about what others think about it.
